Global Roadmap on Biodiversity Credits

‘Harnessing Biodiversity Credits for People and Planet’ is a contribution to the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact held in Paris in June 2023. It summarises current developments around biodiversity credits and outlines a Global Roadmap for stakeholders to significantly increase international financing and strengthen governance frameworks for the conservation and preservation of biodiversity.

Building on discussions launched during the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, the roadmap focuses on biodiversity-positive carbon credits and biodiversity certificates. Its goal is to create a robust and credible framework for the development and scaling of biodiversity credit markets.

Five thematic working groups have been established to address key challenges around measurement, demand, supply, stewardship, and governance. Work is already underway on biodiversity measurement methodologies and on integrating Indigenous Peoples and local communities into project design.
